Geography
At Christchurch Infant School, we want our children to be curious about the world around them, including its people, places, and environments. Children begin by exploring their immediate surroundings through hands-on experiences and discovery. By the end of Year 2, they will be confident using simple maps, globes, and other sources of information to study a contrasting location and will have a good understanding of their local area. Children will also know about the continents, oceans, and the countries and capitals of the UK, explore and compare different places looking at both human and physical features, and begin to understand local and global weather patterns and climates.
Fieldwork is a key part of our curriculum, helping children connect with their community and see how they can make a difference. Geography shows how people and places are linked and helps children understand the importance of fairness and equality.
We also want our children to feel a strong sense of belonging. Through Student Voice, they are encouraged to share their ideas, speak up, and see themselves as drivers of change in their community.
