Christchurch Infant School

History

At Christchurch Infant School, our History curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity, foster a lifelong passion for the past, and develop an understanding of the world through the lens of those who came before us. We aim to cultivate empathy, moral reflection, and a strong sense of identity by enabling children to explore historical concepts of right and wrong, and walk in the footsteps of others. We are committed to ensuring the curriculum is diverse and inclusive, reflecting the experiences and contributions of people from a range of backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives.

We believe that immersive, story-rich History helps children connect emotionally and intellectually with the past. Through compelling narratives, local stories, and hands-on experiences, we enable students to develop a deep appreciation for different perspectives, contexts, and cultures. Our unique location, rich in historical significance, from Christchurch to wider Dorset, provides a powerful backdrop for meaningful learning.

Our curriculum is designed to be brought to life both within and beyond the classroom. Children will explore the past through engaging lessons, visits to historical sites, and take part in theatrical re-enactments. These experiences allow pupils to engage with history in an active and personal way, forging lasting connections between themselves, their community, and the broader historical narrative.
