Maths

At Christchurch Infant School, we believe that mathematics is a vital life skill that helps children to make sense of the world around them. Our intent is to provide a rich, engaging, and progressive maths curriculum that enables all pupils to become confident, curious, and resilient mathematicians. 

Through high-quality teaching and practical experiences, we aim to develop children’s fluency in number, their ability to reason mathematically, and their confidence in solving problems. We place a strong emphasis on developing a deep and secure understanding of key mathematical concepts, ensuring that learning is built on firm foundations and that children are ready for the next stage of their education. 

We value the use of concrete resources, pictorial representations, and abstract thinking to support understanding at every stage. Regular opportunities for mental maths practice and discussion help children develop agility, accuracy, and confidence in applying their skills in different contexts.  

We aim to equip every child with the mathematical skills and mindset they need to thrive both within and beyond the classroom.
