Christchurch Infant School

PRE

At Christchurch Infant School, our PRE curriculum is designed to nurture curiosity, empathy, and respect in our young learners, supporting their spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. Rooted in our school motto, “To be the best that we can be,” we aim to provide a rich and inclusive learning experience that reflects the diverse beliefs and values of our community and the wider world.

Our intent is to:

Promote values of compassion, tolerance, and responsibility, enabling children to consider how their actions affect others and how they can contribute positively to their community.

Encourage thoughtful questioning and reflection, helping children explore big ideas about identity, belonging, fairness, and kindness through age-appropriate philosophical enquiry.

Introduce children to a range of religious and non-religious worldviews, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Humanism, fostering understanding and respect for different beliefs and practices.

Support children’s personal development, helping them articulate their own thoughts and feelings, listen to others, and develop confidence in expressing their ideas.

Provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences, including stories, learning about celebrations, artefacts, and visits, to bring PRE learning to life and make it meaningful and memorable.

Our PRE curriculum is carefully sequenced from EYFS to Year 2, building on children’s natural curiosity and developing their ability to think critically and respectfully about the world around them. To clearly communicate that your PRE (Philosophy, Religion and Ethics) lessons are based on the Discovery scheme. It aligns with the Dorset Agreed Syllabus and national guidance, ensuring progression and depth in learning.
